We seek a highly motivated, experienced software engineer to join our development team. Candidates should have Java or Microservices development expertise, good organizational and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

The role's preferred location is Sunbury, but can be based in any of the following BT locations: Birmingham, Bristol, London, Manchester

What you’ll be doing

  • Design and development of high-volume, secure messaging applications.
  • Develop and maintain a mission critical platform following company standards and best practices.
  • Work with and support the QA test team to identify and correct issues.
  • Technical design and documentation of new applications or enhancements to existing applications.
  • Work closely with network and infrastructure teams to implement highly scalable, robust technical architectures.
  • Communicate status and issues to key stakeholders.
  • Quickly and efficiently address application issues. 

Skills and Experience Required

  • 3- 5+ years of software development experience.
  • Java and/or Microservices development expertise.
  • Experience developing scalable, robust, high-volume transactional systems, including experience with multi-threading concepts, messaging, etc.
  • Experience with load testing, performance tuning, and monitoring to provide high availability and supportability for complex applications.
  • Object-oriented design and development experience.
  • Experience creating detailed technical designs and supporting documentation.
  • Experience in both SQL (Postgres/MySQL etc.) and NoSQL (Cassandra/DynamoDB/Cosmos DB/MongoDB etc.).
  • Ability to effectively work and contribute in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Knowledge of networking, distributed systems and diagnostic systems.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows systems.

Beneficial Skills/Experience

  • C/C++/C#/JavaScript development experience.
  • CI/CD/DevOps pipeline implementation experience with tools like Git, GitLab, Subversion, Maven, Jenkins,Docker, Puppet/Chef, etc.
  • Cloud (Azure, AWS) development experience.
  • Experience with PKI/Cryptography.
  • BSc technical degree preferred
