Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

Why this job matters

 

This role is pivotal in safeguarding BT’s commercial integrity and ensuring that our major contracts and business activities are governed by robust risk management and control frameworks. You’ll operate across the business unit to identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks, embed key controls, and ensure compliance with BT’s governance standards and strategic obligations.

As part of a distributed, matrix-style risk model, you’ll play a central role in shaping how risk is understood and managed across this division. Your work will directly support informed decision-making, protect commercial value, and uphold BT’s reputation.

 

This job role can be based in Cheltenham, Ipswich, London or Manchester. Hybrid (3 days office based & 2 days remote). Monday-Friday 37.5 hours. DV Security Clearance is required. Must have lived in UK for 10+ years to obtain clearance. 

What you’ll be doing

 

Commercial & Contractual Risk Management

  • Proactively identify, assess, and monitor risks across major contracts, frameworks, and commercial programmes, ensuring alignment with BT’s risk appetite and strategic goals.

Governance & Key Controls

  • Implement and maintain governance frameworks that ensure compliance with BT’s internal policies, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.

Policy & Compliance Support

  • Act as a subject matter expert on BT’s commercial governance policies, including Delegation of Authority (DoA), contract governance, and risk escalation protocols.

Reporting & Insight

  • Produce regular risk and governance reports for senior leadership, highlighting emerging risks, control effectiveness, and compliance trends.

      Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with Client Partners, Commercial Operations, Legal, Finance, and Delivery teams to embed governance and risk awareness into day-to-day operations.

What we'd like to see on your CV

 

  • Strong understanding of commercial risk, contract governance, and internal control frameworks.
  • Experience managing risk registers, RAID logs, and compliance reporting in a commercial or operational environment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and contractual compliance requirements in telecoms or similar sectors.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver risk and governance initiatives in a fast-paced, transformation-focused environment.

Flexible Working
This role offers a 3 together, 2 wherever working model. This means you are required to be at your contractual location 3 days a week with 2 flexible days per week.
