Key Responsibilities

 

  • Design and deliver complex, high-impact network security solutions across multiple platforms and customer environments.
  • Provide technical leadership, consultancy, and design authority across concurrent projects, guiding key technical decisions.
  • Produce end-to-end security designs including HLD/LLD, proof of concepts, and configuration guidelines.
  • Define technical strategy for network security platforms and customer solutions, managing technical risk.
  • Establish and promote design best practices and reusable design patterns.
  • Approve and sign off critical design changes on major platforms and customer solutions.
  • Drive innovation, scalability, and efficiency through design re-use and improved processes.
  • Estimate and plan technical resources for complex projects.
  • Lead or coordinate virtual matrix teams and third-party technical contributors where required.
  • Influence senior stakeholders and contribute to vendor selection and technical direction.
  • Act as a senior technical point of contact and provide mentorship to others.

 


Requirements

 

  • Experience of minimum two vendor technologies: Cisco Security, Check Point, Palo Alto (including Prisma), Fortinet, F5.
  • Security-related certifications such as Cisco (CCNA/CCNP/CCIE), Check Point (CCSE/CCSM), Palo Alto, Fortinet, F5.
  • Extensive experience in network security design across complex, multi-platform environments.
  • Strong background in high-risk, high-impact security solutions and customer-facing projects.
  • Proven ability to create HLD/LLD documentation and technical security designs.
  • Experience developing proof of concepts and technical configuration standards.
  • Ability to define technical strategy and make design authority decisions.
  • Strong understanding of design governance, best practices, and reusable architecture patterns.
  • Experience managing technical risk on large-scale platforms.
  • Capability to plan resources and support complex project delivery.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders in multi-vendor environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in advanced network/security environments.
  • Experience mentoring others and providing technical leadership.
  • Experience designing and deploying network and security services for large organisations.
  • Knowledge of IP networking and security-related technologies.

  • Experience influencing technical direction at platform or domain level.
  • Involvement in vendor selection or evaluation processes.
  • Experience working in large-scale, enterprise or service provider environments.
  • Background in cross-domain or cross-portfolio solution design.
  • Experience contributing to transformation or design standardisation initiatives.
  • Recognition as a technical subject matter expert beyond the immediate team.

 


Stakeholder/ Communication skills

 

• Able to deliver significant stakeholder influence to resolve problems. Expected to give technical guidance to others to help resolve issues outside of the domain of the role.

• Provides thought leadership to senior internal stakeholders and customers regarding the overall future platform and/or customer solutions.

• Acts as a point of contact for technical expertise to advise senior stakeholders, internal and external. 

 


Business expertise /Commercial impact

 

• Expert user of design tools; seeks opportunities to develop new design tools for BT, and for external adoption.

• Makes authoritative recommendations on design tools and processes for network platforms and/or customer solutions, where appropriate.

• Able to solve problems typically specific to leading edge high impact and high risk network platforms and/or customer solutions.

• Impact of decisions are specific to the design strategy and/or direction for leading edge high risk and high impact network platforms and/or customer solution.

• Evidence of successful transformation measures – e.g. HLD/LLD.

• Mentors and share knowledge with others.

• Positive revenue measures for P&SD roles.

• Efficient cycle time

• This role has no direct reports but will potentially lead a large matrix team. Key Stakeholders:
