Key Purpose of Role
The role holder provides Consultancy, Design, Development, Integration and Support professional services at a high technical level and is also responsible for the provision of technology advice and services to both internal and external clients. The role is often project-based.
The role holder is involved technically and professionally in the design of customer’s technical solutions, systems architecture as well as the development and integration of overall solutions. Activities will include ‘in depth’ analysis, design (both for high and lower level solutions), development, testing/integration and support as well as consultancy. The role holder might be charged out to customers as part of the delivery of specific projects. The technical aspects that must be covered by the specialist is the IP networking Area.
The role holder is a technical design specialist that is responsible for the following types of activities:
• Presales technical support to sales engineers in complex or non standard BIDs or RFP tenders concerning BT Connect solutions. Specialist must help or advice Sales Engineers finding the best technical solution to meet the customer requirements and respecting the business objectives. The specialist must help the Sales engineer to describe the solution in a document or directly to the customer. The specialist has to provide all the necessary technical feasibility authorization (internally or with third parties or vendor) assuring that the solution comply the tender’s/BID’s requirements. If necessary a test bed can be organized to test specific functionality. The specialist must explain to the sale’s team all technical solution’s constraints in clear and simple manner.
• Delivery and post-sales technical support. In case of be-spoke / non-standard solution the design specialist has to collaborate with the delivery team writing a Low Level Design document. The document has to describe the detailed information about the solution and may contain also the migration phases descriptions and/or the test & turn-up descriptions. The Design specialist must collaborate with PM to be sure that all the delivery activities are correctly started. The design specialist must explains the project and all the configuration needed to the BT configuration specialist and/or the third party configuration specialist. The specialist might collaborate with the delivering team during the test & turn-up phase or during the migration phases. The specialist must assure his technical support to the delivery team for troubleshooting and fault analysis.
• Lab Test/Trial of customer technical proposition. If requested by internal or external customer the design specialist should lead a trial to verify the functionality of technical solution proposed in a RFP response to a BID. The Role holder has to manage the test bed deployment in collaboration with a PM , he has to build a test list and share it with the team. He has to work in collaboration with a third party or internal configuration specialist to build the trial and complete all the tests needed. He has to make troubleshooting to solve all possible issues and finally make a test report.
Key Responsibilities
• To be experienced and fully competent in own area, have in depth technical knowledge of BT Connect products and share knowledge and information with colleagues. Act as mentor/role model to others.
• Expected to take clear ownership for solution areas and be capable of delivering these to required timescales.
• In each assigned project the role holder has to demonstrate substantial personal responsibility and autonomy. He must require project team/line manager approval only if a decision can impact the overall customer’s service / requirement without a rollback option.
• Manage the specific activities of my role in compliance with the regulations and obligations provided for by EU Regulation 679/2016 (GDPR) on the protection of personal data and company policies. All the activities envisaged by the role must be conducted in line with the BT Italia management system.
