About this role – Cyber Security Operational Engineer.
Systems, Security & Tooling Team was formed as a progressive operational support team towards the convergence of multiple Global domains across BT. We pride ourselves on providing expert third line support to an extensive range of services; ensuring the required levels of availability are maintained. The team is widely recognised for getting things done in a flexible manner, while making transformational (or tactical) improvements along the way. We do this by ensuring we have the right people to achieve our high ambitions.
We are seeking a passionate Cyber Security Operational Engineer, to join the unit in the role of Security Specialist. This role will require a mix of hands-on technical development and consultancy, whereby the successful candidate will be implementing technical requirements as well as focussing on policy, governance and management. The ideal candidate would assertively implement change and be comfortable mandating this to achieve success.
You will need to bring security awareness and strong security culture into the wider environment.
What you’ll be doing
- Project Management
- Knowledge sharing and train staff on security awareness
- Work within defined team framework & security boundaries
- Analyse Orgs & Roles to create access policies
- Understand Technologies to assess vulnerabilities
- Documenting internal/external processes for achieving optimal performance of computer systems through Wiki and maintaining Jira stories for prioritization of the workload
- Technical Acumen: Apply your understanding of network principles to troubleshoot to assess security incidents and look at how you can optimize performance and enhance security across our infrastructure.
- Incident Management and Resolution: Be prepared to support a 365x24/7 callout, providing third line technical resolution covering an extensive range of technologies.
- Customer Focus: Be a technical expert who understands the end-to-end journey of our customers.
- Growth and Development: As a technically talented expert you should enhance the brand of the team and support those around you to be accountable and perform at their best.
You'll have the following skills & experience
- Technical Proficiency:
- Networking principles (IP, tcp/udp/icmp, bgp,ospf,isis)
- Firewalls and connectivity
- Network services (dns, ntp, tacacs, radius,ldap)
- Security Tools
- Linux
- Growth Mindset
- Security culture/mindset
- Say ‘no’ (and offer alternative solutions if possible)
- Ability to support/lead audits (SOC2, ISO27001)
- Programming Proficiency: Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Bash, Python and/or Ansible.
- Team Player
Desired
- Experience in an ISP Environment: experience in a fast-paced ISP setting, managing and troubleshooting internal networks.
- Continuous Application Deployments: Experience deploying new developments to live networks across a variety of infrastructure, including Virtual Machines, Routers, Switches, and Servers.
