Why this role matters
In this role, you will ensure the safe, scalable, and timely delivery of software releases across a complex multi-vendor, multi-environment ecosystem. This involves orchestrating alignment between Design, Labs, Test, Operations, and Project teams to reduce risks that arise from siloed or conflicting priorities.
You will act as the single point of accountability for managing change into live environments, the role balances the need for speed with the necessity of control. It enables velocity and innovation while maintaining governance, compliance, and service stability for millions of customers.
By turning ambiguity into coordinated, well-governed delivery outcomes, this function builds confidence across senior stakeholders and ensures that delivery remains both agile and reliable.
This role will provide you with an unrivalled overview of our mobile business and cloud function.
This role is based in London or Bristol and our hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week.
You'll have the following responsibilities
• Own and be accountable for agreed Release strategy within Mobile Cloud Core.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Mobile including Design, Labs, Test, Quality Assurance, Product Management, and Operations, to plan and schedule release activities.
• Continuously reviewing and adjusting release plans based on shifting priorities, late-breaking issues, and evolving business needs.
• Representing release progress, risks, and readiness to senior stakeholders in a clear, data-informed, and solution-orientated way.
• Perform risk assessments and implement contingency plans to mitigate potential release issues.
• Monitor release progress, track key performance metrics, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
• Co-ordinate with stakeholders within Mobile to ensure all artefacts are captured for each release at each stage of the lifecycle.
• Work with Release Agents and Managers in other functions to control scope and prevent unauthorized changes during release cycles.
• Maintain version control and documentation of changes throughout the release cycle.
• Build strong relationships across teams and navigating competing demands with confidence, diplomacy and assertiveness.
• Identify opportunities to improve the release process, use automation, implement best practices, and streamline workflows.
• Encourage a culture of continuous improvement within the release management team and our stakeholders.
You'll have the following skills and experience
Skills
• Ability to manage multiple parallel release, adapt daily, and ensure alignment across teams and environments.
• Confident communicator who can influence and align diverse groups, including technical leads, project managers and vendors.
• Skilled at identifying and resolving risks and cross-functional blockers before they impact delivery.
• Comfortable pushing back, holding ground, and navigating ego to keep delivery on track.
• Understands the importance of compliance, CAB processes, and structured change control.
• Can operate with incomplete information, find structure in chaos and drive clarity.
• Able to engage in discussions about environments, integrations, and infrastructure without needing to be hands-on.
• Provide clear, concise updates to leadership, with a focus on impacts, progress and actions.
Experience
• Excellent planning skills to time / cost / quality targets.
• Experience with Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
• Knowledge of software configuration management tools.
• Working knowledge of workflow management tools such as Jira.
• Working knowledge & full understanding of project frameworks, methodologies and standards.
• Capable of working under pressure and resolving resultant customer conflicts in a rapidly changing business.
• Aware of risk management methodologies, including the identification, assessment and management of environment delivery risks.
• Strong interpersonal skills able to collaborate across organisational boundaries.
• Proven problem solver with the ability to remove blockers.
• Ability to take ownership and comfortable making decisions whilst also empowering the team to be self-starters.
• Professional Project Management qualification or ITIL or SAFe or similar.
• Nice to have - Degree or equivalent technical/engineering qualification.
• Nice to have - Professional Project Management qualification e.g. Prince 2, Agile.
• Nice to have - Technical understanding and working knowledge of Mobile technologies i.e 4G, 5G NSA and 5G SA.
