The Digital unit will lead our digital innovation agenda, driving new digital experiences for our customers - and in new markets – while, at the same time, simplifying what we have. They will be responsible for focusing on digital delivery and the customer experience as much as the end innovation (including delivery and transformation, digital innovation and delivery, data strategy and solutions, and architecture and governance). The Digital unit will set and implement the overall BT Group Digital Platform Strategy including x-CFU products, platforms, architecture, standards, and transformation agenda.

Why this job matters

The Digital Architecture team is responsible for driving the technology transformation in BT. The Integration team is part of the Digital Enablement area within Digital Architecture. We operate as a central function with responsibility for delivering integration capabilities and services across all the lines of business within BT, but are in the midst of moving to a federated operating model. Our ESB/SOA platforms are being modernised to API and microservice led integration and we are adopting event driven architecture to support our data and AI platforms in the cloud. BT is also part of the TM Forum and are committed to using the TMF Open Digital Architecture, particularly relevant to integration in terms of the usage of TMF Open API and TMF SID.

Integration is important because we provide consistent and reusable mechanisms for pan-BT integration that make it easy for our internal and external customers to work with us using a set of secure, performant and stable services. In this role, you will have solution architecture responsibility for architecting integration solutions for the Group functions in BT e.g. Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain etc.

What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities

•    Create and own integration solution architecture and design work across all Group level functions
•    Work with agile squads, end-to-end design and delivery teams to provide technical assurance for integration deliveries
•    Assess impacts to integration components and review estimates for multiple solution stories
•    Enforce architecture principles and governance standards for all solutions
•    Be seen as the technical point for contact and “go to” person for any design queries related to Group functions
•    Keep abreast with integration technologies and the changing technology landscape within BT

Skills required for the job

•    Technology design - You partner with the business to understand and analyse user requirements and inform the architecture design for software, systems and networks.
•    Product and service knowledge - You demonstrate subject matter expertise in complex, technical infrastructure, products and services. You develop bespoke solutions to meet short, medium and long-term customer needs.
•    Be agile - You identify opportunities to use collaborative approaches and continuous improvement. You contribute to projects as a subject matter expert or content owner.

Experience you would be expected to have

•    Mandatory – Strong experience of microservices, web service gateways, ESBs, ETL, MFT and API management platforms
•    Mandatory – Deep expertise in API design (REST, gRPC, Async) with a background in software development
•    Mandatory - Knowledge of real time and batch integration patterns
•    Mandatory - ‘Can do’ pragmatic attitude keeping focused on delivery and able to withstand project pressures due to tight timelines and complexity
•    Desirable – Knowledge of microservice patterns
•    Desirable - Awareness of regulatory and security standards, particularly within the telecom industry
•    Desirable - Knowledge of integration in multi-cloud scenarios
