We are looking for a Specialist Product Designer to join our Digital Design team in BT Wholesale. BT Wholesale provides a range of connectivity products (broadband, voice, ethernet, and more) to companies all over the country that they then sell to their own customers.

You are the voice of our customer and when a new project/initiative begins you lead from the front and design world class experiences that you know our customers desire. You typically do this work within cross–functional teams and are aware that shared understanding is their secret sauce. Throughout the process you instinctively share your ideas with colleagues and peers and love to see them adapt and evolve as a result of constructive criticism. 

 

You nurture meaningful relationships across the company 

You understand that in order to truly enable design in an organisation like BT you’ll need to carefully build trusting relationships with other teams and departments. You rely on this network of relationships to inform your design process, promote our capability and ensure that the work we are doing is relevant and consistent with our brand strategy.  

 

You are strategically minded 

You’re not afraid to respectfully interrogate and question the teams’ wider strategy. You use your in-depth knowledge of our customer behaviour to propose new ideas and ways of working that keep BT at the forefront of the telco industry. 

 

You are a master in your craft (almost) 

Before mentoring others it’s important that you, yourself, have plenty of confidence in your craft and can deliver world class user experience design in very complex scenarios with high commercial significance.

Whilst not formally managing a team or individual you actively look for opportunities to help your colleagues grow. You are subtle and empathetic in your approach to sharing your expertise and raising the standard of design within the team. 

 

You are articulate

Your responsibilities: 

  • Designing world class digital experiences for a wide range of digital products in highly complex scenarios with significant commercial impact. 

  • Seamlessly presenting & sharing the organisation’s/design lead’s creative vision with complete understanding and conviction. 

  • Mentoring other colleagues in areas where they need development. 

  • Understanding and contributing to design systems for use on scale. 

  • Designing and facilitating a wide mix of participatory workshops (for both discovery and ideation). 

  • Working closely with the Design Managers and Design Lead on recruitment strategy, its implementation and on-boarding new team members. 

  • High level of collaboration with other creative departments within the business. 

  • Actively promoting the teams’ work in the design community and raising our profile. 

 

Requirements 

  • 5+ years of experience as a Digital Product Designer and/or UX Designer, Visual Designer, Interaction Designer. 

  • A champion of design excellence, consistency and high standards of craft. 

  • Strong collaborator with an ability to bring people together on a large scale. 

  • Razor-sharp focus, and the ability to ‘cut through noise’ to make sound and rapid decisions. 

  • Excellent communicator and ability to manage stakeholders at all levels across Product, Design and Engineering teams. 

  • Active contributor in the design community - regularly sharing your work & processes. 

  • Strong operation skills, with a can-do attitude and a proven record of streamlining the design process by removing impediments through the creation of processes and workflows. 

  • Some experience working in complex agile environments. 

  • Basic understanding of both generative and formative user research methods.
