We are seeking a passionate Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), to join the unit. This role will specialise in engineering with a curious approach towards automation. Candidates will be required to leverage their knowledge in engineering and use software to transform the way we interact with networks. A key responsibility will be investigating and learning new technologies, so a desire to learn is equally as valuable as experience.
As part of this role, you’ll directly contribute to improving reliability, scalability, and performance of services by driving automation, monitoring, and operational excellence across a number of environments.
What you’ll be doing
• Is accountable for the delivery of routine daily activities for system design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, monitoring and ongoing support of all network infrastructure components.
• Participate and be the technical lead on incidents within immediate domain and be part of PIR write up and solution.
• Propose and implement innovations for continuous improvement within immediate area.
• Executing the implementation of complex change in line with change management best practices and the associated governance.
• Providing 365x24/7 operational support for faults that span a range of platform domains i.e. out of hours change and callout.
• Managing stakeholder and demand expectations through cross area engagement.
• Developing technical capability through continued learning and use BT’s learning tools.
• Will champion and build effective working relationships, both internally and externally to deliver business outcomes, adding value throughout.
• Responsible for delivering the change execution and assurance of Fixed Network platforms managed by network engineering technology services.
• Integration: Collaborate with design & platform teams and support the Implementation of flawless change into the live network, prioritising the use of automation.
• Observability: Developing bespoke monitoring solutions to improve visibility of the network
• Automation Tools: Utilise tools such as Ansible and Python to provision and manage infrastructure resources in a scalable and efficient manner.
• Technical Acumen: Apply your understanding of network principles to troubleshoot network faults within our systems and look at how you can optimize performance and enhance security across our infrastructure.
• Customer Focus: Be a technical expert who understands the end-to-end journey of our customers.
Skills and Experience
The skills you’ll need to succeed
• You will be fully conversant and comply with Change Management processes and the supporting governance.
• You will be confident and professional in communicating with all stakeholders, both locally and with members of the Senior Management Team.

• Experience in completing changes in a live network and system environment.

Must have
• Experience in an Optical Transmission Environment: Proven experience in a fast-paced Optical Transmission setting, managing and troubleshooting large-scale networks.
• Network Fundamentals: Knowledge of transport technology principles, including OTN, SDH and WDM.
• Technical Proficiency: Understanding of network architecture, design, and implementation.
• Programming Proficiency: Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python or Ansible.
• Growth Mindset: Self-driven attitude towards learning new skills and aiding the development of others.
• OS Administration: System administration skills, across an array of operating systems such as linux, windows etc.
• Automation: Fundamental understanding of at least one approach to network automation, such as Python or Ansible, as well as a familiarity with CI/CD orchestration.
Desired
• Linux Administration: Linux system administration skills, with a focus on performance optimisation, security, and automation.
• Vendor Hardware Expertise: Hands-on experience with hardware from leading vendors such as Huawei, Ciena and Nokia.
• Awareness of virtualised environments: Virtual machines & containerisation
• Awareness of CI/CD: Appreciation of the principles and benefits
