Our Wholesale business helps communications providers (CPs) and other organisations provide fixed or mobile phone services. We also offer specialist enterprise services to our Internet of Things customers.
The Wholesale Sales function partners with and delivers capability to our biggest customers (across the UK and beyond), who in turn deliver communication services to their customers. Why this job matters
As a Senior Business Development Solutions Consultant, you will drive growth in Edge/5G/Digital Infrastructure - a large, growing, and strategically important segment of the UK mobile market. You'll help deliver BT Group's ambition to grow market share and maximize return on our network investment through targeted partnerships, identifying opportunities across consumer, business, and IoT segments. This is a senior, customer-facing individual contributor role, suited to a commercially driven "hunter" who can engage stakeholders, uncover customer problems, and shape compelling end-to-end propositions while also influencing BT's Edge/5G/Digital Infrastructure strategy.
You'll spend the majority of your time in market, identifying and qualifying opportunities, orchestrating internal teams to build the right solution and architecture, and progressing complex deals through to signature. Once a deal is signed, you'll hand over into the wider team while remaining a subject-matter expert on the deal structure and solution.
What you’ll be doing
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities for high-performance Edge/5G solutions, taking opportunities from first customer engagement through to deal signature and handover.
- Engage confidently with customer technical and commercial stakeholders to understand business problems, shape requirements, and articulate value-led solution proposals.
- Develop end-to-end solution designs by bringing together EE 5G, cloud/edge capabilities (including hyperscaler partnerships such as AWS/Wavelength), IP networking, and associated infrastructure.
- Lead cross-functional internal alignment across architecture, commercial, legal, delivery, and product teams to structure, price, and progress complex opportunities through BT governance.
- Act as the technical subject matter expert for your deals—owning the solution narrative, architecture, and rationale during negotiations and remaining a point of reference post-handover as needed.
- Serve as BT's industry-facing ambassador on Edge/5G, reinforcing our position as the UK's supplier of choice through active participation at industry events (such as Edge/5G Nation and Edge/5G World Congress), thought leadership contributions, and engagement with C-level customer stakeholders.

What we would like to see on your CV
- Proven experience in a new business/hunter-style sales or business development role, taking complex opportunities from discovery through to deal signature and handover; commercial understanding of the mobile market and wholesale dynamics.
- Strong technical depth in at least one relevant area (e.g., cloud architecture, IP/networking, or 5G), with the ability to translate customer needs into end-to-end solutions; understanding of both wholesale and retail market dynamics.
- Leadership capability: able to set direction and lead bid teams to solve problems under pressure of time and ambiguity; excellent customer-facing communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders and coordinating across multiple internal teams to shape and progress a deal.
- Commercial acumen: strong understanding of pricing models and how they impact margin for Edge/5G and BT Group; ability to develop commercial business cases and negotiate large, bespoke commercial agreements. Strategic thinking: ability to assess market trends, competitor activity, and develop growth opportunities aligned with our goals. Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-complexity environment, with a willingness to travel as needed; ability to obtain security clearance if required (desirable), and an interest in using AI tools effectively with strong attention to detail.

Flexible working
BT have moved to a hybrid working model - you can work from home 2 days per week. This means you’ll be at your contractual location 3 days a week.
