We have an exciting opportunity for a data hungry expert to join our Portfolio Business team within BT Business. Reporting into our Radianz and Trading Command CIO you’ll see the team grow as it forms and builds into a new function over the coming months.
If AI and digitisation gets you all giddy then you need to hear that that’s what this teams priority focus will be!...How to digitise the IT estate and stack, (fyi we have a whopping 160 different systems), leading the strategy into single data warehouses. Turning off the old and then building to switch on the new.
As our Data Architect you’ll lead the design, implementation, and management of data architecture and pipelines to support robust data ecosystems. This role involves optimizing data flows, ensuring scalability, and designing data models to empower advanced analytics, reporting capabilities, streamlines processes and cost optimisation.
We'll see you work with a wide variety of stakeholders from Internal Operations, Head of Products,Digital, Technology, Commercial teams, C level to external customers.
What you’ll be doing
Data Architecture and Strategy

- Design and implement end-to-end data architecture frameworks on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Define and maintain data models, schemas, and mapping strategies aligned with business needs.
- Collaborate with business and IT teams to ensure the data architecture supports organizational goals.
Data Pipelines and Workflows

- Design, build, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT processes for ingesting and transforming data.
- Develop data pipelines to integrate various data sources, ensuring data integrity and security.
- Monitor and improve data workflows to enhance performance and reliability.
API and Integration

- Design and manage APIs for seamless data exchange between systems.
- Enable real-time and batch data integrations using best practices.
Data Analysis and Modelling

- Build logical and physical data models to support analytical and operational workloads.
- Map data flows from source to target systems, documenting transformations and lineage.
Governance and Compliance

- Implement data governance policies, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Monitor data quality and establish processes to address inconsistencies or gaps.
Leadership and Collaboration

- Mentor junior data engineers and architects, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Act as a subject matter expert in stakeholder discussions, advising on best practices and emerging trends.
Experience you’ll need
- 8+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or a similar role.
- Proven expertise in Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, etc.).
- Deep understanding of ETL/ELT processes, dataflows, and pipelines.
- Strong experience with API design and integration.
- Advanced knowledge of data modelling, schema design, and data mapping techniques.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Skills you’ll need
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, or Java for data manipulation and scripting.
- Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Looker (advantageous).
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
- Knowledge of emerging trends in cloud-native architectures and data engineering.
- Strong communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Certifications
- Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer Certification.
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent.

Flexible Working – BT have moved to a hybrid working – you can work from home 2 days per week. This means you’ll be at your contractual location 3 days a week.
