Why this job matters

As an Advanced Analytics Specialist, you will be part of a team responsible for ensuring that Openreach business units are able to get the insight they need to make the right operational decisions.  This is important for Openreach as it continues to improve performance and customer service, while also building the UKs largest fibre network.

 

You will work on projects across a number of products and programmes in Openreach.  You’ll use technical skills to independently interrogate data and conduct or create new analysis which may lead to one off action, the development of long-term dashboards, or further detailed analysis. You will use their business knowledge to ensure they understand the actionable insight, and work with the right stakeholders to inform them of the required actions.

 

You’ll be experienced in creating new analytics and generating new insight, you may coach other less experienced members of the team, or provide technical analytical support to analysts in operational teams.

 

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Business to understand their Data Analytics needs and supports in the conceptualisation of analytics work and interpreting data, giving insight and consulting on next steps
  • Educates the business about data analytics, identifying and proposing areas for business improvement opportunities using data.
  • Drives the scoping, planning, design and delivery of Data Analytics activities as a part of relevant and forward-looking projects across Openreach​
  • Contributes towards partnerships within the BT group, proactively engaging and liaising with functional teams on analytics to deliver impactful programs using data.
  • Develops advanced analytics products in SQL, Qlik, Python or any other tools as part of audits that provide actionable business insight to key stakeholders.
  • Designs and builds data visualisation to engage audience in a compelling way, and to enable effective storytelling.
  • Leverages automation to maximise efficiency in repeatable data collection, data analytics and other standards for consistency and reusability.
  • Drives positives relationship with other data and analytics-focused teams to leverage ongoing initiatives and capabilities, or hand-over data models developed during programs.
  • Owns contribution to team and data governance processes, policies & regulations. Follows best practices and agile methodology, owning sprint goals and participating in sprint activities and governance.

 

You'll need to have the following skills and experience

  • Excellent data visualisation skills, preferably developed in Qlik Sense (Tableau or Power BI are suitable alternatives).
  • To be a highly capable user of Oracle SQL who can link datasets together to answer core questions. PL/SQL experience is beneficial but not essential.
  • Ability to turn complex quantitative insight into high level information for the use of senior management.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity / unknowns and still make progress on multiple projects at once.
  • Initiative to proactively find new insight and present this back to the business
  • Ability to self-teach new skills and a hunger to improve.
  • An ability to coach people in SQL, Qlik Sense, Excel and data analysis, acting as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Proven experience liaising with stakeholders at all levels
