This is a key strategic role at the heart of Openreach, responsible for shaping and driving our long-term vision. As Senior Strategy Manager you will play a pivotal part in defining and executing our overall strategy, including critical areas such as platform investment planning, inorganic growth initiatives and our transition to a full-fibre network.

In this position, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis to inform decision-making, developing detailed business cases that support strategic priorities and producing high-quality written materials tailored for senior stakeholders. Your insights and recommendations will directly influence the direction of the business, ensuring Openreach remains at the forefront of the industry.

What you’ll be doing:

 

  • Responsible for driving end-to-end delivery of strategic initiatives for Openreach, especially in relation to the major network strategy decisions and choices we face, including solving problems, by determining the cause of the problem, identifying, prioritising, and selecting alternatives for a solution and implementing.
  • Creating a wide range of qualitative and quantitative analysis, including complex pieces of financial analysis and business case development; at times this will be done largely by the role holder and at other times through day-to-day leadership of virtual teams.
  • Leads teams in the production of materials that gather, analyse, and use information collected on competitors, customers, and other market factors that contribute to a business's competitive advantage.
  • Is seen as a trusted advisor and builds strong relationships with colleagues and the business to drive business performance by demonstrating and applying a deep understanding of the business, the commercial context and the wider world of work to influence value drivers to optimise profitability
  • Acting as working lead on business development initiatives and supporting complex negotiations with CPs, government and Ofcom.
  • Operating with a high degree of independence and influence with no/few direct reports, but with larger virtual teams comprising across multiple functions including Commercial, Legal, Regulatory, ID, Chief Engineer, Analytics, and Finance.
  • Oversees the development of clear, compelling presentations to support decision making on strategic topics with senior stakeholders and external audiences.
  • Actively maintains knowledge of critical business concepts relevant to the Openreach and demonstrates ability to use deep business knowledge to inform decision-making.
  • Uses expertise to drive forward best practices of thought-leadership and strategy development to ensure optimal, defensible cross-function outcome.
  • Coaches and mentors junior team members and plays a role in bringing in new talent to the organisation.

Essential Skills:

 

  • Extensive experience in delivering strategic or commercial results within complex stakeholder environments, demonstrating the ability to influence at a senior level.
  • A comprehensive strategy skill set, including a strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to break down complex challenges and develop actionable solutions.
  • Strong business case modelling expertise, with the ability to develop robust financial and strategic models that support investment decisions and drive business growth.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, compelling recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, capable of navigating ambiguity and driving initiatives forward in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly effective influencing skills, with the ability to challenge ideas, drive innovation, negotiate strategically, and build strong relationships both within the organisation and with external stakeholders.
