The technical policy lead will have full responsibility for designing, implementing and maintaining a fit for purpose access security policy, agreed and implemented consistently across BT.  
The role will play an integral part in maintaining the integrity and security of BT’s data and systems; driving risk mitigation across people, process and systems to reduce risk and improve customer experience.

This role follows hybrid working and requires 3 days in the office (choice of Birmingham, Manchester or Ipswich)

What you’ll be doing

  • Take full accountability for creating, owning and maintaining our access policy documents and understanding the impact of the policy on differing user groups internal and external to BT
  • Bringing together diverse communities, including HR, legal and risk to engage in policy decisions on a regular basis, championing engagement and adherence
  • Collaborate with security teams to translate security requirements into effective policies e.g. web filtering, threat prevention, and more.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure system design and implementation supports and enforces our policy decisions. 
  • Raise awareness and support for the access policy to encourage new and desired behaviours
  • Liaise with key stakeholders and seniors to influence, negotiate and agree the policy direction for BT and its impact on our people and technology
  • Security SME, working across multiple teams, being able to inspect and adapt to evolving threats
  • Regular auditing and monitoring of policy adoption and access controls to ensure compliance with internal policy and external regulations
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on access control policies and procedures, offering technical support when required
  • Respond to questions and queries regarding Policy
  • Conduct stakeholder engagement activity, including preparing any relevant materials
  • In case of security incidents or policy violations, will investigate and adjusts policies as needed to prevent future occurrences.
  • Review and respond to a changing risk landscape to ensure our security posture and strategy are fit for purpose
  • Influencing how wider teams in BT communicate and share information to reduce risk exposure

Skills Required for the Role

  • Understanding of current Cyber Security threats to our industry & motivation to protect BT from malicious adversaries.
  • Technical proficiency: A strong understanding of our security tooling estate with good knowledge of authentication, encryption and secure data transmission
  • Analytical: Ability to analyse security risk and develop innovative strategies to mitigate against them. Demonstrate strong problem solving skills to address new threats and keep policies up to date
  • Embedding transformational change and benefits management: able to analyse, plan and implement enduring change affecting systems, processes and particularly people.  Able to identify, plan, realise and measure policy benefits.
  • Communication skills: Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging and influencing seniors across the business and breaking down complex technical challenges into understandable terms
  • Stakeholder management: able to work across the organisation to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels in support of project objectives.
  • Self-starter: able to work out what needs to be done in a complex situation and set a direction for self 
  • Creative thinker: able to think around a problem and come up with creative solutions

Experience Required for the Role

MANDATORY

  • Experience of Security Policy management
  • Knowledge and experience of risk management
  • Experience working across business areas, achieving rapid decision making and implementing solutions
  • Knowledge and experience of transformational change management
  • Strong communicator

PREFERRED

  • Experience working with Zscaler products
  • Recent experience with access control policy
  • Experience supporting complex cyber security or IT projects.
